Tuning
One of the main benefits of digital radio has to be that that you can preset your favorite stations, but as well as this you can easily scroll through all the available stations in your area using the incorporated screen and select the one you want. You no longer need to remember the frequency that the station transmits on, just the stations name.
Reduced Interference
Interference is greatly reduced on a digital radio, gone is the hiss and crackle often experienced on FM and AM bands, it is replaced by crisp digital sound.
Information
The screen that is incorporated into most DAB radios names which station you are currently listening to and also scrolls further information provided by that station. This can be news headlines or traffic information, depending on the station you are listening to.
No subscription fees
Once you have purchased your digital radio that's it, there are no subscription fees to pay for stations like there can be with digital TV. It's a one off payment for the equipment, then you are free to listen to your favorite stations.
Extra features
Digital radios often feature the ability to pause and rewind radio, this means that if you are interrupted whilst you are listening, you can just press pause and continue listening afterwards. With the rewind feature, you can simply go back to a part of the show that interested you, or write down the information that you missed the first time around.
It might surprise you to learn that the UK has the world's biggest DAB network, with 103 transmitters and over 250 commercial DAB radio stations. For more information and to find out what stations are available in your area visit the official website.
